POLY WELDING COURSE SUCCESS

A big congratulations to our Kokatha Pastoral (KP) workers who successfully completed a poly welding course in Adelaide.

The two day course has equipped the workers with the skills they need to complete the pipeline installation from Woomera to Roxby Downs Station.

Once installed, the new pipeline will bring mains water to Roxby Downs Station, which has previously relied on dam water.

The course covered all the skills required for electro-fusion welding and welding polyethylene pipe to comply with Australian standards and manufacturers’ requirements.

Polyethylene pipe is used in numerous industries, including viticulture, mining, plumbing and water industry operations.

Calling all Kokatha creatives!

You’re invited to take part in a creative skills development workshop on Wednesday and Thursday next week, hosted by Kokatha Aboriginal Corporation and Ku Arts.

You’ll get to meet the Ku Arts team, learn about product development and start creating a unique body of work to showcase and sell at the 2025 Tarnanthi Art Fair.

The workshops are free and 100 per cent of profits from any artwork produced and sold will go directly to artists.

Lunch and snacks will be provided to participants.

WE’RE HIRING – STATION WORKERS

Kokatha Aboriginal Corporation is seeking Expressions of Interest from people keen to work at the Kokatha Pastoral Stations near Roxby Downs in the State’s north.

The role requires an ability to assist with day-to-day running of livestock and operational property matters at the Kokatha stations including:

◾security;

◾general property and equipment maintenance;

◾pastoral infrastructure;

◾checking water supply;

◾fence and water supply repairs; and

◾general care of all buildings, grounds and facilities.

Station Workers will need to work as part of a team to support the delivery of land management and pastoral programs.

They must also maintain a respectful and constructive relationship with Kokatha community members and stakeholders visiting the property, including:

◾ensuring visitors comply with all safety instructions; and

◾assisting with Kokatha community events, held on and off site.

Candidates must understand and always comply with Workplace Health and Safety requirements; and laws on animal management.

They must also ensure all practices on the Kokatha Pastoral Stations are professional, ethical and comply with relevant legislative requirements and professional standards.

⭐️ Person Specification ⭐️

Essential:

◾Demonstrated knowledge of livestock management and property maintenance.

◾Understanding of relevant WH&S requirements and ability to maintain high safety standards.

◾Sound interpersonal skills with the ability to build respectful and constructive relationship with Traditional Owners, Native Title Holders and groups associated with the station.

Working 5-6 days per week. Single accommodation with all meals and wifi provided.

Above award wage will be offered to the right candidates.

◾Where: South Australian Business Consultancy at 54 Commercial Road (The Old Town Hall) in Port Augusta.

The Kokatha Community Assistance Program (CAP) is offering support for Kokatha members who have started their own business or have a great idea for a business but don’t know how to start.

Tomorrow’s information session is an opportunity to access professional support and advice to get your business up and running, or to ensure your business grows and is profitable and sustainable into the future.

WHITE CARD TRAINING – PORT AUGUSTA

Are you interested in a career in the construction industry? TAFESA is offering a White Card – Work Safely in the Construction Industry short course on Wednesday.

This license is a mandatory requirement for anyone interested in working in construction.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST – FOOD HANDLING COURSE

Are you interested in a career in hospitality or want to learn more about how to handle food safely? Kokatha Aboriginal Corporation would like to hear from you!

We’re seeking Expressions of Interest from registered Kokatha members and registered Kokatha Common Law Holders who are keen to take part in a three hour Basic Hygiene and Food Handling course in September.

The training is tailored towards employees and volunteers involved in food handling and is suitable for staff working both within and outside the kitchen.

The course covers all the fundamental issues employees need to be aware of while handling food, and provides an overview of the Food Standards Code and what each individual’s responsibilities are within it.

This includes:

Personal hygiene and hand washing

Safe food handling and food storage principles

The causes of food poisoning

Temperature control and the 2 hour / 4 hour rule

Preventing cross contamination

Cleaning and sanitising

Government requirements

The training will be provided on Friday 13 September in Port Augusta at a venue to be confirmed.

TRAINING SUCCESS FOR KP AND KMS STAFF! 👏

Congratulations to our Kokatha Pastoral (KP) and Kokatha Mining Services (KMS) staff for obtaining 27 machinery tickets during a week-long training course in Port Augusta.

KP workers Jaiya Warrior, David Brady, Kyren Boland, Jamahl Ware, Justin Coulthard and Chae Milera achieved 23 tickets and KMS workers Anthony Joslyn-Neil and Arron Treloar achieved 4 tickets.

The course was run by CS Training and included training in operating loaders, graders, rollers, backhoes, excavators and skid steers.

The workers are already putting their new skills to use at Roxby Downs Station, where work is underway to prepare for the Kokatha Common Law Holder meeting scheduled for 6 July.

BHP OLYMPIC DAM VILLAGE INFORMATION DAY

BHP is holding an Olympic Dam Information Day for Indigenous applicants on 27 March 2024 at the Port Augusta City Council Central Oval starting at 10.30am.

Information will be provided on the day about 20 identified Indigenous entry level Mining Operations and Surface Execution roles based at Olympic Dam.

Attendees will hear from Indigenous employees and leaders about their career journeys at BHP, explore the advertised roles and learn about working at Olympic Dam, including lifestyle and networks.

Selected attendees will then be eligible to attend an Employment Assessment Centre in April.
