Plant Operator (Water Cart) – Road Maintenance
Port Augusta location – DIDO Carrapateena Mine Area
The Kokatha People are the Traditional Owners of a large section of land in the north of South Australia. This area stretches from Lake Torrens in the East to the Gawler Ranges in the West. The Kokatha Traditional Owners’ Native Title area encompasses significant mineral deposits which are subject to current mining operations and future potential mining activities. The Native Title area also includes the townships of Woomera, Roxby Downs and Andamooka which are major service centres for this part of regional South Australia.
This role is part of a road maintenance team responsible for repairs and maintenance of the roads network associated with the OZ Minerals Carrapateena mine site. It is a DIDO role on a 5/2 roster, where Monday to Friday is spent accommodated at Carrapateena and travel to/from Carrapateena is provided out of Port Augusta.
The role includes a full range of duties with the majority of time being spent operating plant and machinery to perform road maintenance tasks. Activities include:
- Daily pre-start checks for plant and vehicles and daily/weekly maintenance
- Regular safety checks on plant, machinery and work procedures
- Safe operation of 30,000 litre water cart in prime mover/semitrailer combination
- Other machine operating work including general road maintenance with self-propelled multi-tyred roller, loader, semi-tipper combination as directed by Team Leader
- General labouring duties associated with maintenance of roadside infrastructure
- Use of traffic control signage and management of traffic movements throughout the worksite in accordance with the Traffic Management Plan
- General maintenance including regular greasing, and cleaning of vehicles, plant and equipment.

You will need previous civil experience in a semi-trailer water truck on unsealed road maintenance works. You will also need:
- an HC Licence is essential and a Loader Ticket, Roller Ticket and Excavator Ticket are desirable
- Work Zone Traffic Management Ticket or a willingness to obtain within 3 months of commencement
- Basic mathematics skills and legible handwriting
- Strong attention to detail
- Good communication and the ability to develop sound relationships with customers and contractors
- Excellent organisation skills and the ability to work unsupervised
- Demonstrated understanding of safe work practices and a strong safety focus
- A proactive approach and the ability to prioritise tasks
- Ability to work in a team
- Ability to work in remote and harsh environments including hot temperatures
