The Department for Infrastructure and Transport, on behalf of the South Australian Government has developed a draft South Australia’s Road Safety Strategy to 2031.
Community consultation is now open!
The Strategy has been developed with input from communities, stakeholders and road users across the state. By working together we can save lives, reduce serious injuries and create safer communities.
Aboriginal people comprise approximately 3% of South Australia’s population but are generally 2-3 times more likely to have a fatal injury and 30% more likely to have a serious injury than non-Aboriginal people. This over-representation extends across many public health issues including involvement in road crashes.
The draft Strategy contains principles that underpin road safety decision making and nine strategic priorities that are the focus areas for the Strategy.
As one of the nine proposed strategic priorities, Aboriginal road safety is recognised as an area that requires specific focus.
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport is seeking feedback on the draft Strategy from the Aboriginal people of South Australia. With feedback and suggestions we can work together to improve road safety for Aboriginal people.
Every Aboriginal person in South Australia is a road user. Whether you drive, ride, are a pedestrian or a passenger, this is your opportunity to provide feedback on the draft Strategy to guide South Australia’s focus for the next decade.
Consultation closes 5pm Wednesday 1 September 2021.
Your input is important and will contribute to the final Strategy. We encourage you to get involved.
