KOKATHA ABORIGINAL CORPORATION WELCOMES NEW LEADERSHIP
Kokatha Aboriginal Corporation (KAC) is proud to announce the appointment of Nyani Thomas as Chairperson and Chereena Amos as Vice Chairperson.
Both bring strong leadership, deep community connections, and a shared commitment to advancing Kokatha interests.
Nyani’s journey to leadership has been shaped by a lifetime immersed in Aboriginal communities across Australia.
His parents, Andrew and Monica Thomas, were deeply involved in Aboriginal affairs, and his early years were spent in places like Mutitjulu, Kununurra, and Yalata before settling in Port Augusta.
These experiences fostered his passion for empowering Aboriginal communities and ensuring strong governance.
After joining the Kokatha Charitable Trust Board in 2022, Nyani was elected to the KAC Board in February 2023 and has since played a key role in governance, finance and as a member of the Oak Dam Working Group.
After being re-elected as a Director in December, Nyani was voted in as Chairperson, and is eager to continue to drive positive outcomes for Kokatha People.
‘I’m very humbled that the Board has placed their faith in me,’ Nyani says. ‘I want to ensure the right management and outcomes for our community. At the heart of my work is a deep passion to see Kokatha People receive the opportunities and support they deserve.’
Supporting Nyani in leadership, Chereena Amos has been appointed as Vice Chairperson. Elected to the Board at the November 2023 AGM, Chereena has been an active advocate for her community, committed to ensuring Kokatha voices are heard.
‘It’s important to me to listen to our community and represent them in the best possible way,’ Chereena says. ‘I’m honoured to be chosen as Vice Chair and excited to work alongside such a passionate and committed group.’
With eight years of experience in the public sector, holding roles in administration, maintenance, and project management, Chereena brings strong organisational skills and a keen focus on community engagement.
KAC welcomes Nyani and Chereena into their new roles and looks forward to their leadership in guiding the Corporation’s future.
