WOOMERA PROHIBITED AREA – EXCLUSION PERIODS FOR FINANCIAL YEAR 2021-22

Exclusion period notification

Access to the Woomera Prohibited Area (WPA) in South Australia is subject to exclusion periods during which the Department of Defence may undertake war materiel testing.

For safety and security reasons, designated zones within the WPA will be closed and you may be required to evacuate the area during the notified exclusion periods. Permission or permits may also not be granted to access the WPA during the exclusion periods.

Amber Zone exclusion periods for Financial Year 2021-22

Defence’s exclusion periods within WPA Amber Zones 1 and 2 for the financial year 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022 are listed in Attachment A.

Remaining exclusion periods for Financial Year 2020-21

The remaining exclusion periods for the financial year 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021 that remain in force are:

Amber Zone 1:  8 March 2021 to 9 May 2021 inclusive

The financial year 2021-22 exclusion periods commence on 1 July 2021.

Map of WPA access zones

The access zone boundaries are shown in the map at Attachment B.

The Amber Zone is made up of two sub-zones: Amber Zone 1 and Amber Zone 2. Different periods of exclusion may apply to each sub-zone.

Notifications and exclusion period variations

Defence will endeavour to give permit holders and non-Defence users affected by exclusion periods as much notice as possible, including when Defence cancels a published exclusion period.
