In the lead-up to the Oak Dam Retention Lease Agreement Authorisation Meeting, here are five key things you should know about the agreement:
1. BHP wants an agreement with Kokatha Common Law Holders for Oak Dam, which will run for 5 years with the option to extend to 10 years.
2. Kokatha Common Law Holders only have a right to negotiate compensation, not a right to decide if the project goes ahead.
3. This is NOT a mining agreement. If BHP decides to mine at Oak Dam, they will need to negotiate a new agreement with Kokatha Common Law Holders.
4. All steps have been taken to protect Kokatha heritage and keep BHP away from important sites and Tjukurpa.
5. KAC has negotiated significant compensation and other benefits for Kokatha Common Law Holders.
All KAC members and registered Kokatha Common Law Holders are invited to attend the Oak Dam Retention Lease Authorisation Agreement Meeting on Saturday 12 April 2025.
