10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE KOKATHA CONSENT DETERMINATION
Kokatha Aboriginal Corporation (KAC) was proud to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Kokatha Native Title Consent Determination on Sunday 1 September.
The event was held at the same claypan at Andamooka Station near Roxby Downs, where the Federal Court formally recognised Kokatha’s Native Title in 2014.
Around 200 people attended the celebration including Kokatha Elders, the KAC Directors, Culture and Heritage Committee members, community, friends and stakeholders.
Members of the original Kokatha Management Committee and Kokatha Elders spoke about the lengthy struggle Kokatha People had to have their land rights recognised and paid their respects to the Elders who helped pave the way.
Catering was very generously provided by ISS and the Kokatha Pastoral team members who whipped up a delicious array of deserts with native ingredients including lemon myrtle, quandong and wattle seed.
After lunch, cultural dancers performed inma and community members cooked malu and malu wipu in the sandhills.

A big thank you to everyone who made the day such a success, including BHP who helped support the logistics of the day, our stakeholders and friends for attending and most of all the amazing Kokatha community.
A huge congratulations to everyone who helped achieve the Consent Determination and also to those who have contributed to the success of KAC over the past ten years.
We can’t wait to see KAC continue to grow and support the Kokatha community over the next decade!

More photos of the event will be posted in coming days so keep an eye on our Facebook page.
